Processor and Associated Terms

Multicores Processors

Multi core processor system have two or more processor on a chip. This help the CU to divide the load between two processors, hence increasing efficiency and speeds.

Having a multi core processor means , we can achieve more tasks and have smaller instruction queues for processor.

Word Size.

Word Size, is the number of bits that can be processed by the processor in one cycle . They may range from 8 bot to 64 bits. As the size of word increases, more data can be processed by processor at a time , hence increasing the speed

Cache .

Cache is also a type of memory , that briefly stores data that processor has to use. It help us to speed up the process. Instead of searching the data in whole memory , the requires data is copied to cache, so it can be used and processed by computer easily . Further more cache can be divided in three categories.

System having higher cache are more speedier and more costly

Moore’s Law.

It is a important part of computer history . Moore notice that number of transistors in a integrated circuit were increasing exponentially every year . The capacity of measuring digital memories and processor speed is directly linked to Moore’s law .

Clock

A clock is a signal that is used to synchronize or may be used to count particular events. Normally clock signal is determined by having s square signal. The high level may represent 1 and the low one represents zero. The circuit can be triggered on edges or levels. The frequency of a clock is measure in Hz.

Cycle Per Instruction

Cycle per Instruction , or clock per instruction is of the aspect, with which processor speed is compared. It is the speed at which instructions are executed. . The clock helps to synchronize the instructions and all other activities of processor . Every clock cycle, a word is processed within the processor. The Cpu requires a fixed number of words to be executed to complete a instruction. The faster a instruction can be executed, better the speed of CPU is
