Effect of Modern Age on Students and Teachers

Introduction

Technological innovation has become a part of every field of world .  and has touched every part of our life.n everyday life, technology plays an ever-increasing role; innovations, such as cellular telephones, hand-held computers, automatic teller machines, and Lap tops has  incorporated into daily use. Information is available in greater quantities than ever before, and the means to access and share  has become easy. However, little is known about its effect on the society . The classroom are also effected technology is having an increasing impact in schools throughout the country. In the same way that little is known about how technology affects communities in general, little is yet known about the effects that increased use of technology is having on school communities,

Effect of Digital Age on  Class Rooms

Schools invest a lot of money in infrastructure that provides support  internet and modern teaching . . As Internet access becomes a standard technology on college campuses, students don’t need to visit a library, to locate information and stay connected. A large number of schools in Pakistan  have some form of Internet connectivity. As many colleges add computer labs within individual departments and not only in libraries, individual academic programs have started using the technology and requiring students to use computer labs for skill-specific training.

Online Learning

Many colleges offer traditional chalk and board  learning, online learning or a combination of both. In classes with online and classroom components, the student usually attends a classroom on campus lectures and important tests. The online aspect of a combined course involves submitting assignments, watching supplementary video and obtaining course materials online outside the classroom. Even in traditional classes, students may have access to an online syllabus, research materials and other class information via an online class portal. Depending on your intended program, finding an accredited college that provides an entire degree program online may be possible. Computers have made online learning available and provide access to education regardless of where you reside.

Disadvantages of online learning

·         Less Instructional Support

  • Althoughinstructors are available to students via e-mail, telephone, Web discussion boards and other online means, some students may see the lack of face-to-face interaction and one-on-one instruction as a challenge. Similarly A lack of communication or miscommunication between instructors and students may frustrate students Issues with Required Skills
  • Because students are primarily learning independently and submitting assignments virtually, coursework is heavily dependent on reading and writing. This may be discouraging to those who lack written communication skills

·         Lack of Quality or Variety

  • Although online schooling options have grown in recent years, there are still many fields of study — like healthcare and engineering — that require practical instruction and are not available fully online.

·         MIsue

  • Digital devices can be misused in class. Although many students take notes with them or use them to fact-check the lecture, others shop online, read the news, or worse, from the academic perspective, buy their assignments from online term paper mills.

Mobility

As the computer’s is becoming small and small opportunities have increased  to move data easily . Students can use mobile computing devices for interviews, to take notes in the field and to record lectures. Students who can’t afford the cost of a laptop may use a tablet or other less costly mobile device to access educational resources.

Drawbacks of mobility

  • Drawbacks exist to using such devices. Mobile devices aren’t always able to access content available to traditional laptops and desktops, such as certain video and other programs that students might need to access.

Effect of Lap tops on Students notes taking strategies

Note-taking using pen and paper has quickly become obsolete, at least in college classrooms. In the digital age, using laptops, or “notebooks,” to take  lectures has become common practice, but can typing electronic, notes be harmful to academic performance

Those who handwrite notes found  it more  flexible  , Typing notes, however, eliminates the possibility of losing the notes and handouts while providing organization and clear legibility. As the trend of bringing laptops to class continually increases — with more than 50 percent of college students reporting use in class at least once a week

Comparison of Modern and Traditional teaching Methods

As with most professions today, there are rapid developments in teaching that are being driven technological changes. Keeping up to date with these developments is important.. The skills needed to be a great teacher have now changed; modern teachers need to be competent . However while choosing the set skills , one must take care ,analyze the advantage and its disadvantage.

Similarly traditional methods have also remained a lot success full , si before upgrading ones skills, teachers needs to be assure which skill sets need to be updated and which skill sets needs to be improved

Advantages

  • Gives the instructor the chance to expose students to updated material
  • student ideas, questions and comments.
  • Can be used to arouse interest in a subject.
  • Can complement and clarify text material.
  • Complements certain individual learning preferences. Some students depend Facilitates large-class communication.

Disadvantages

  • Places students in a passive rather than an active role, which hinders learning.
  • Encourages one-way communication; therefore, the lecturer must make a conscious effort to become aware of student problems and student
  • Requires a considerable amount of unguided student time outside of the classroom to enable
  • Requires the instructor to have or to learn effective writing and speaking skill

Effect of Digital Age on Students Hand Writing

The benefits of modern technologies such as personal computers, , and electronic organizers are evident in everyday life. However, recently it has   been proposed that the increasing use of personal computers in producing written texts may significantly contribute to the loss of handwriting skills.

Computers have demoted handwriting  students . The characteristics of good handwriting are correct letter formation, consistent spacing of letters and words, and general neatness all qualities ,  that students are now practicing less. Students spend more time on typing notes, which does not help them to improve hand writing.

More over such languages, which are not easily available to be typed on computer , are also losing their roots , as students have started practicing them in roman writing, like roman udru,.

\Effect of new age on students is becoming is becoming a debate now days . the modern era, helps students to visualize simulations, take online lectures, contact professors from far flung areas. But however same devices can be  used in  negative ways . Although many students take notes with them or use them to fact-check the lecture, others shop online, read the news,  or worse, from the academic perspective, buy their assignments from online term paper mills.

Courses and curriculum needs to be developed in such a way, that they can take maximum advantage of computer,  and should not ignore the importance of traditional methods, which were effect full , like writing , etc.
